Are you a law student or a young lawyer?
Do you wish to get the opportunity to acquire professional working experience in a foreign country, develop practical working skills, obtain diverse knowledge of different legal areas, improve your language skills or expand your network?
Then we have a perfect programme for you! Student Trainee Exchange Programme (STEP) is the programme secured by the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) which is the world’s largest, international, independent, non-political, non-profit-making law students’ association.
It is present in 44 European countries and has a vast Network with a membership of 54 000 students and young lawyers at more than 300 European universities. The purpose of ELSA is to contribute to legal education, to foster mutual understanding and to promote social responsibility of law students and young lawyers. One of the key areas in ELSA is STEP which enables law students and young lawyers to gain first hand legal and cultural experience from another country. The STEP has been a part of ELSA since 1984.
Aside from prestigious traineeship providers within Europe, STEP has expanded also outside of Europe in recent years and started cooperation with countries such as Brazil, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, India, Israel, Malaysia, the USA etc.
Per year we provide our members more than 500 traineeship opportunities. Participation in our programme is absolutely free of charge. To apply for STEP you only need to become a member of ELSA. Also, you do not have to worry about remuneration as the traineeships are mainly paid or accommodation, transport, food or other benefits are provided.
